Arrow Electronics Joins Mentor Graphics ADAPT Program to Offer Ubiquidata to Electronic Engineers
MELVILLE, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 28, 2002--The Global
Information Business, a business unit of Arrow Electronics, Inc.
(NYSE: ARW), has joined the ADAPT(SM) (Authorized DataFusion(TM)
Partner) program of Mentor Graphics, a leader in electronic design
automation (EDA).
The Global Information Business and Mentor Graphics are working
together to develop an interface between Mentor's design data
management infrastructure solution, DMS, and Ubiquidata(TM), the
Global Information Business' electronics database containing 16
million parts from hundreds of manufacturers.
As a result of this joint development effort, Mentor will offer a
DMS-Xchange(TM) module that will allow printed circuit board (PCB)
design and layout engineers to seamlessly integrate Ubiquidata with
Mentor's DMS solution, making premier technical and commerce data
available within their everyday work environment. Ubiquidata provides
technical information for parts, such as data sheets and electrical
and mechanical parameters, and commerce information, such as
lifecycle, availability, breadth of usage, and multi-source profiles.
Access to this information enables engineers to analyze every
dimension of a part early in their design cycle before making a
component selection, saving money by preventing reengineering costs
later.
"In order to meet time-to-market and cost-to-market requirements,
it is imperative that electronic design engineers have access to a
broad portfolio of decision and selection criteria early in the design
process," said Uwe Schmid, Ph.D., managing director, systems data
management, systems design division, Mentor Graphics. "We chose to
work with Arrow's Global Information Business so we can offer our
customers a way to incorporate this accurate and comprehensive
database into their engineering environment."
"We're excited about the value that this partnership brings to the
engineering community. Mentor Graphics customers will get easy access
to our best-in-class information without having to leave the design
environment that they are accustomed to working in," said Chris Henry,
vice president and general manager, Arrow's Global Information
Business. "Integrating our data with Mentor's powerful EDA tools
offers the best of both worlds, providing supply chain intelligence
that will help customers make more informed design decisions."
